required reading

I'm not sure which is worse: How To Attract Asian Woman or How to Date a White Woman: A Practical Guide for Asian Men. Either way, both are totally going on my wishlist.

the moral of the story has to do with the open bar

Last night I had the surreal experience of going to a party for -- and fuck, am I tired of saying this phrase -- Fashion Week. It was actually for John Cale, a cranky-looking old man who just happened to start some band called The Velvet Underground, but it was hosted by Betsey Johnson and populated with glossy types and, most importantly, held at the Bryant Park Hotel, so we could all stare at those silly white tents.

Emphasis on silly.

When I got out of the cab and realized that the tiny little square that was vibrating with house music was Bryant Park, I went into kidney failure. THAT'S IT? That's ground zero for model barf and hard drugs? That's the center of the current self-important silliness of the fashion world? How...underwhelming.

Anyhow, the party was cool for the sake of free champagne, but I got my ass pinched the SECOND I walked into the bar. Classy. I thought I graduated college to get away from that sort of thing, but it's good to know John Cale's guests aren't above a little fratastic flirting.

my email has left the building

I hate technicality-posts like this, but:

In case some of you haven't noticed, my jessicacoen.com email (sadly featured at right) hasn't been working. That's what happens, apparently, when you don't pay for stuff or something. Whatever. So send your hatemail to jessicaATgawkerDOTcom until I get this crackmobile fixed.

reuters ganks nyt's style

Most painfully obvious headline ever:

Eisner's Exit Plan Good for Disney

Really? You think? Did we just figure this out? The last 8 months haven't helped anyone come to this conclusion just a wee bit sooner?

get her jacked up on some cheap champagne

I'm going to get back to updating this site, dammit. I mean it this time. I'm getting increasingly used to the daily schedule over at The Job, and I think I can comfortably write a line or two of gibberish over here.

Last night I saw the Scissor Sisters at Irving Plaza. I don't really like the venue, but it was amazing to see the band play a crowd 20x the size of that of Spaceland in LA, where I last saw them. Seriously, just a few months ago they were playing FREE show and opening for The Like. Now they're selling out Irving. My, how they've grown. Anyhow, the show was full of fun and dancing queens and, most importantly, I rekindled my passion for ass-shaking.
